Although the large medical institute that gave this swath its name is no longer in operation, the Graduate Hospital neighborhood has solidified a reputation as a clean, well-lit and extremely family-friendly area thanks to its unique amenities and local businesses. Graduate Hospital is a vibrant neighborhood of row homes with a history that dates back several hundred years. Home to families and businesses alike, this area is characterized by a mix of single-family homes, both new and old, as well as world-class gastropubs and thriving places of worship. The neighborhood hosts the acclaimed Odunde Festival, a celebration of African culture, each year as it has done for more than forty years. During the festival, streets shut down to automobile traffic to allow for the massive outdoor party featuring food, dancing, and vendors. Additionally, each October local restaurants and businesses line the streets with tents for Bloktoberfest to offer food, drunk and outdoor music along South Street West.
